Before Anesthesia
Before Anesthesia at Oral Surgery +
Before undergoing anesthesia for your oral surgical procedure, it is important to follow certain guidelines to ensure your safety and the success of your treatment. Please review the following instructions carefully and feel free to contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.
-
Fasting: It is essential to abstain from eating or drinking anything, including water, for at least 8 hours before your scheduled surgery. This fasting period helps to prevent complications such as aspiration during anesthesia administration.
-
Medications: Inform your oral surgeon about all medications you are currently taking, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements. Your surgeon will advise you on which medications to take on the day of surgery and which to temporarily discontinue.
-
Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment, with sleeves that can be easily rolled up if intravenous (IV) sedation will be administered. Avoid wearing contact lenses, jewelry, and accessories that may interfere with the surgical procedure.
-
Transportation: Arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to and from your appointment, as you will not be able to drive or operate machinery after receiving anesthesia. Your companion should remain at the office during your procedure and be available to assist you afterward.
-
Health Conditions: If you develop a cold, fever, or any other illness leading up to your surgery, please notify our office as soon as possible. Your surgery may need to be rescheduled to ensure your safety and the success of the procedure.
-
Follow Instructions: Follow any additional preoperative instructions provided by your oral surgeon, such as specific oral hygiene measures or preoperative medications. These instructions are designed to optimize your surgical outcome and minimize the risk of complications.
By following these pre-anesthesia surgical instructions, you can help ensure a smooth and successful surgical experience. If you have any questions or concerns about your upcoming procedure or anesthesia administration, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. We are here to support you and provide you with the highest quality care.
